• Length of trip: 16 days
• Results of the kids' first attempt at gold panning: approximately 7 flakes of gold and about 60 garnets
• Electronic gadgets that needed to plug into the one car outlet accessible from the front seat: 7 (GPS, satellite radio, cell phone charger, Bluetooth speaker, iPod FM transmitter, DVD player, and power converter for the 4 additional things that only had a 120v plug)
• National parks visited: 4 (Redwood, Golden Gate, Yosemite, Crater Lake)
• Forms of public transportation used: 4 (Muni bus, cable car, and BART in San Francisco, plus the Yosemite Valley shuttle)
• States visited: 3 (okay, all we did in Nevada was have breakfast in a casino, but it still counts)
• Hikes: 2 (here and here)
  
• California missions visited: only one (showing considerable restraint on my part)
• Trees driven through: 1
  
• Car breakdowns, illnesses, and emergency room visits: zero!
